Families and school form an important relationship.
We encourage and celebrate family participation throughout the school year.
Back to School Night: We begin our school year with Back to School Nights. We feel strongly that parents should have a clear understanding of our curriculum and philosophy. Every teacher presents an in-depth overview of an area of our curriculum. This is an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and have a better understanding of what kind of activities take place on a regular basis.
Bedtime Story Night: Bedtime Story Night is held in the fall. Parents and children return to school in the evening for stories, finger plays and songs together. We all come dressed for bed and parents are the special readers. Please click here for information on this year’s Story Nights to be held on October 12 and 13.
Parent Education Programs: Parent Education Programs are offered during the year. There are evening and daytime events. We have guest speakers on a variety of topics relating to preschool children and parenting skills. We have great community connections to draw from for various topics. Parents with many different careers or expertise are available also. Examples of some of our programs have included a representative from the Montclair Counseling Center, as well as a professional nutrionist.
Grandparents Pizza Lunch: Grandparents Pizza Lunch is a fundraiser and social event held each January. Each child is invited to have grandparents or special grownups come to school for pizza and a classroom visit. The children are bursting with pride as they share this special day with their grandparents.
Father’s Saturday: Father’s Saturday is a long-standing tradition in March. Children come to school with Dad for a special mini-day. We all enjoy classroom activities together. The children make our special snack and all go home with a special art project.
Mother’s Day Tea: Mother’s Day Teas are held during the day the week before Mother’s Day. The children have special songs and gifts for Mom.
Family Fun Night: Family Fun Night is an end-of-year tradition. We usually have a professional entertainer for this event. Families are invited to enjoy this special event together. We have puppeteers, fossil and dinosaur exhibits, singers, etc.
St. Peter’s Street Fair: At the beginning of June, the grounds of St. Peter’s become a true, old-fashioned carnival, complete with games and rides, a bake sale, and delicious food!
